During a normal vinyasa class we rarely ever have time to explain more challenging options because we are only in the pose for 3-5 breaths. Some options are quite accessible but you need to learn the right technique to do them. During the workshop, we will look at poses that you can start including in your practice so you can continue to work on different variations and progressions regardless of your level of flexibility. Some examples of poses that we might cover are splits (front & mid), compass, wheel, camel, flip grip poses (king pigeon, lounge, dancer, half-moon) and possibly some inversions depending on the group.
I have trained for years with my teacher Rebecca Hannah. Her style is called the Art of Flexibility and the style incorporates, yoga, contortion and dance techniques used to upskill your practice safely. Of course, I add to this with my own experience and my yoga & dance background. During the workshop, we will be doing drills, stretches and strengthening exercises. If you have done my Stretch & Mobility or Art of Flexibility class you probably have an idea. However in this workshop, besides working on preparing the body we will spend a lot of time on specific poses, how to do them safely and transitions.
I often work with people who are hypermobile as well as people who lack natural flexibility or those working with injuries. What I have learned is that everything is possible when you have the right tools and techniques. It might take a longer time for some people to reach specific poses. Based on that we might have a different approach for individual people. What's important for me is that everyone access poses safely. Also while in yoga we do a lot of passive stretches, I use more of an active flexibility approach in my Workshops, which will help strengthen the body while becoming more flexible. This will make everything you do in the workshop sustainable.
For me, it's more important what's your approach to your practice. Regardless if you are a beginner or an advanced/senior practitioner, as long as you want to learn new poses and you are willing to do the work, you are welcome to join me. The workshop will be challenging regardless of your level, you will work hard. This is not a relaxing class, there won't be savasana or meditations. You can ask questions and have individual attention during the class. There will be different options and modifications for everyone. In the end, we will have lots of fun while we practice :)
If you have more questions, feel free to talk to me directly. If I think the workshop is not for you I will let you know.
